For search engine optimization and internet marketing to be entirely successful it needs to stay ahead of the virtual curve, and take advantage of every single little nook and cranny of the online world – always pre-empting the latest content revolution, whether it be blogging or tweeting. If you are reading this and you haven’t heard that social media has come to define the marketing and SEO then perhaps all hope is lost! – However, if you truly want to capitalize on the most vivacious aspect of the current internet experience for millions, and to reach as many potential customers and clients as possible, as well as creating a lifetimes worth of back linking, then you’ll need to exploit the social media trend!
Target Market
When launching a social media marketing strategy, you need to carefully define your parameters – that is to say you should have a complete awareness of exactly where you are going and what you want to achieve. It is the nature of social networking that it is not only incomparably prevalent but it strives to offer “consumers” variety. In terms of marketing this gives you an awesome oppourtunity: not only will you be able to reach untold numbers of potential customers, but you will be able to engineer your output to reach exactly the kind of consumers your look for – i.e. your target market.
This targeted approach to social media marketing will require a significant level of planning to be effective – but its aims are simple, to reach the customers that will be most valuable to your business.
Whilst the world of social media might be dominated by the big players, in fact there is a whole pantheon of ’specialised’ social media, such as digg.com for news, which means that reaching the right people can be as simple as choosing the appropriate search engine.
Quality and Quantity
If you want to maximize your social media presence, perhaps with a view to creating a storm of back-linking activity, you should be prepared to invest a lot in terms of time and effort. A successful social network marketing campaign doesn’t just involve joining as many social networks as possible and establishing generic profile pages, but instead you should aim to become an active and prolific member of as many social pages that you can stomach.
On the one level, you can use social media to gage the latest trends, to get a effective free market awareness, by simply joining networks and monitoring profiles or discussions – this however is too easy! So why not engage with your target market instead! This can be done in a wide variety of ways: for example, you could leave comments, or start discussions – careful allows to contribute rather than just keyword stuff – or better still you could write your own blogs (or get someone else to do it) that a reader will not only find informative, but will see as an organic link to your homepage – and there it is! – a back-link! These are the beginnings of creating a buzz about yourself, your brand and your business, which is essentially a step in the right direction for online reputation management.
