Even conscientious site owners can fall foul of Google from time to time. Google’s algorithm changes have taken even seasoned search engine optimization gurus by surprise. If your site has dropped out of sight in the SERPs, there’s a simple set of steps you need to take.
1. Are you really not on Google?
The first thing you need to do is check whether you’ve been dropped from the index, or whether your place in the index has dropped. The best way to do this is to do a ’site:yoursite.com’ search. This simple search is one of the greatest search engine optimization tools there is, because it lets you know in a flash exactly what your problem is. If you get no result, you’ve got confirmation that you’ve been heavily penalised, and the reconsideration process can begin.
2. Talk to your SEO company.
Unless you’re extremely confident of your SEO abilities, chances are you’re going to need some expert advice if your pages have disappeared from the index. If you’ve experienced a sudden drop in rankings, or if you’ve been dropped from the index completely, it’s time to get in touch with your search engine optimization company, and you can talk to us at SearchEngineOptimization.co.uk.
3. Get to work.
Unfortunately, the main thing you have to do after any drop, whether it be in rankings or from the index, is work hard. This means reviewing content, going over code for hidden information, and reviewing security for potential hacks.
4. Resubmit, or wait.
Either submit a reconsideration request, or await the algorithm’s verdict.
