The central precepts of search engine optimization aren’t that difficult to understand. The search engines want to promote quality sites, and they don’t like being tricked. The job of a good search engine optimization agency, then, is to ensure that its clients’ sites are high-quality, and to be honest with Google and the other search engines. Simple.
Site owners run into all sorts of trouble when they ignore these central concepts. The way that search engines work has changed, but the way to please them is essentially the same. Here are the things to avoid:
1. Keyword stuffing. This is the oldest of old SEO sins, yet one that site owners still run into trouble with. Too many keywords make content near-unreadable, and the search engines see it as manipulation. Avoid it by setting a reasonable limit on your keyword density.
2. Hidden content. Search engines don’t like hidden items on pages or pages not visible to human users. It’s as simple as that.
3. Thin content. This is an issue that has risen in prominence recently. ‘Thin’ content is low-quality content that doesn’t contain much real information. You can resolve this problem by investing in professional SEO content, and you can discuss this with us at SearchEngineOptimization.co.uk.
4. Paid links. SEO link building is moving away from paid links because, again, search engines see them as manipulative. A profile of paid links is an unstable one.
5. Link spam. Not only is link spam disliked by Google, it’s not that worthwhile. Good link building strategies concentrate on quality links.
