Videos can be a fantastic addition to any website and can be used for a variety of purposes, including helping your SEO campaign along. Whether it is entertainment value to keep visitors to your site amused or more detailed video content such as training videos or news clips, there is no mistaking how effective they can be for your company and how enticing they are to potential customers.
Including links to videos within your search engine optimization techniques can really benefit your business. If a consumer who is searching sees there is a video trainer or video capture of a specific item they are looking for then this will be of interest and appeal and result in more clicks to your web page. There are however, a few things which should be considered when looking at link building strategies for video content within search engines.
Consider the type of format you use for your video content. Search engines are not humans and therefore cannot identify and pick up certain video formats such as java and flash. If it is impossible not to use this format then always ensure there are other ways in which your video can be found. This usually involves the information surrounding the video. Depending on the depth of your video content, it can take a lot of time and effort to produce. For this reason it is worth spending just a little more time and effort on the links surrounding the content, to ensure your video will appear within an online search – otherwise any SEO services you are employing will not have benefit.
Optimising is the key to making a successful video link to a search engine. Optimising your video so that you really get the best out of it is the only way to make it work within a search engine. The title is usually the first aspect that will appear within any search, so ensure that it is fitting to the content and easily understandable and appealing to consumers.
Use alt tags for your video, link using relevant achor text and try to be as descriptive as possible so that the link is recognised as related to the content. Try to include a short introduction to any videos on your site and consider using a few specific and relevant keywords within the video introduction. It is a good idea to state the obvious and display in any tags that this is a video, so people will know what they are getting and can locate your video content more easily.
A lot of companies and people use popular video sites such as Youtube to host their content. This is a great way to display videos, however when uploading be sure to re-input any meta data to ensure it shows up on the host site search results.
In terms of the actual video, content should not be too long winded. Consumers can get bored fairly easily and may be put off by content which is too long. As you would with any basic forms of textual search engine optimisation content, ensure that the video content is relevant and to the point and aimed solely at the consumers, not at the search engines.
