In many diverse circumstances, achieving balance is an essential element of success. In the context of search engine optimisation, sustaining a balance when it comes to sharing information within the SEO firm is essential for success. If information is spread too widely, time is wasted because the specialists have to spend too much effort communicating with the sales department, for example. If insufficient information sharing occurs, there is too little pooling of knowledge among consultants and the sales department is left out of the loop with regard to having a basic and functional appreciation of SEO. Therefore it is necessary to avoid making mistakes in either direction. Experience can be of great value in this area, which is one reason why clients hiring a ‘new kid on the block’ are taking a risk unless it has personnel who have paid their dues in the industry.
There are important reasons why it is inadvisable to share all information in an irresponsible way. If all the industry-relevant information that a firm possesses is dispersed all over the net, it may well be the case that the firm is sacrificing some of its competitive advantage. This lack of discretion will not be welcomed by their clients, if they become aware of it, because such an approach will eventually have a negative influence on the position of their various sites in the search engine results pages (SERPS). On a more basic level, giving out effective technical information for free when it is worth a reasonable amount of money makes little commercial sense.
On the other hand, SEO firms learn a lot from each other so it is important to take part in information sharing in the right spirit in order to manage the image of the firm. More seriously, it is certainly the case that information sharing within the team leads to a more consumer-friendly service. The ordinary employees of SEO services have to be able to discuss complex issues with clients without bothering specialists all the time. Clients may lose patience with a SEO company if they feel their calls are being handled by untrained individuals who do not possess at least an elementary knowledge of what is being done to their site and why. With a SEO campaign often having ups and downs, it is obviously important that the reasons for these vicissitudes can be explained to anxious clients.
Arriving at and sustaining the correct balance in relation to information sharing is no easy practical task. It is imperative that the situation is evaluated periodically on a regular basis. The internal systems and structures of a firm may require some adjustment if too little or too much communication is occurring. Monitoring and assessing this can be achieved by having meetings where all the relevant people can express their views in a confidential environment. Obtaining frequent feedback from clients about how they feel in relation to their treatment is an obvious way of partly establishing where the status quo is near to the right balance.
