The motivation of authors has long been a subject of debate. Relatively recently, the fine novelist Colm Toibin provoked surprise in literary circles when he declared he wrote his near perfect prose for the money. Many bloggers are driven by the economic imperative, but it should be recalled that there are plenty of other ways to earn a living. If a writer, of any sort, is purely inspired by the prospect of wealth accumulation, it is probable that their work will blandly reflect this reality.
A sense of mission is needed to convert an effective SEO blog into one with the intrinsic quality to achieve what most competing blogs fail to do. John Reith, former head of the BBC, once maintained that the mission of the institution was to “inform, educate and entertain.” This well known set of principles could be of assistance to a blogger. Which of the three aims is plumped for most is in part dependent on where the blog will be situated. However, the personality of the blogger will inevitably bring something to the party.
Exceptional SEO bloggers have to retain their sense of mission through good times and bad. Inspiration may fluctuate, distractions may come and go, but persistence must ensure that quality does not vary nearly as much as the content. It is easy to feel motivated when words flow effortlessly, much harder when the very next word seems almost out of reach. Content planning is central to the maintenance of motivation, but the employment of that tool is not sufficient to avoid all difficulties all of the time.
Obviously, individual bloggers have diverse amounts of stamina. It is evident that some can focus better than others. The fortunate few can derive inspiration from sources which leave others cold and can usually produce brief masterpieces on the finer points of search engine optimisation, for example, to order. Even they, however, may come to a point where the concept of writing something interesting and original seems to veer towards the impossible. Motivation will only return with sufficient force if it is allowed to come back naturally.
Some writers wish to leave behind a legacy, to make some impression on society, but bloggers who are swiftly putting together work on things like search engine optimisation can have no such ambition. Even the most beautifully composed blog cannot hope to be remembered for long and will leave only a tiny, transient mark on the mind of the most receptive user.
The best motivation for a blogger, which should be combined with the aforementioned powerful sense of purpose, is to derive satisfaction from a task carried out with a degree of style. There is no reason why the intricate details of search engine optimization, for instance, should not be conveyed via felicitous sentences. Even the unobtrusive introduction of keywords to a text can produce a feeling of a job well done. It is actually much more difficult for most individuals to write purely for commercial gain than it is to combine words which complement each other for pleasure.
