Money makes the world go round and one of the first questions a client will ask when enquiring about SEO services is how much it is going to cost them. If you are new to the world of online search marketing then you may be concerned that you are going to get ripped off or taken for a ride. The answer to the question however, does depend on quite a lot of factors, and search engine optimization services can cost as little or as much as you like.
When you are paying for professional SEO services you are not only paying for expertise and skill, you are also paying for time. If you have ever conducted any of your search marketing yourself you will understand how time consuming it can be, so this needs to be considered when you are measuring costs.
The current position of the company website has a lot to answer for and is probably one if the first things the company will look to identify. If your website is quite good and self explanatory and easy to navigate then it may be a case of the company just using a few content or keyword optimization techniques to increase search ranking and clickthrough rates.
On the other hand, if your website is not working particularly effectively then it may need a complete overhaul, or even be almost started again from scratch. In some really bad instances a company may have used unethical techniques to generate higher rankings which has resulted in exclusion from certain search engines. In situations such as this, the company offering their SEO services really do have their work cut out, so the cost is likely to be a lot higher.
The industry you are part of can also make a difference to the amount of work required by the company. If you have a very niche offering with little competition then it is not going to be as difficult to make your website stand out within that industry. If however, you are trying to break into the soft drinks market, then competition is rife and the strategies and steps involved to make you a success will run a lot deeper. Even if the industry is not overly competitive, the nature of your business still can be, particularly if specific keywords feature highly within search engine results.
So there is no set answer to this until you look into it properly. The one thing that is for certain is that all costs should be laid out prior to any agreement being made. There should be no surprise costs which appear and if any changes are made along the way they should be discussed prior to the work being done. SEO services can cost quite a lot of money if you have extensive requirements, but you need to weigh up this cost against the potential results and decide for yourself what the service is worth to you as a business as a whole, not just to your bank balance.
