If you have a website you have probably had problems with getting the search engine rankings that you need to enhance and grow your online business. There can be a number of reasons why your website is not getting the rankings with search engines that you want.  Some of the more common reasons that you need to look closely at how your SEO is working (or not) are listed below:

1.    View Source Problems – This can be when you are trying to load a web page and trying to figure out the source code to see if the H1 tag is used properly and if the search engines are going to be able to see the page. This can be resolved by using a analyze page button or tool that can help you see if you have the meta tags that you should be using and if they are placed correctly on your web pages. You can find these SEO tools online and use them to help you identify if you are using the right tags to help your search engine rankings and know how to use them on your web pages to help you increase your rankings with search engines.

2.    Determining Page Rank Penalties – It can be difficult to know if your page rank has dropped because of a search engine optimization problem or if you have search engine penalties that are preventing you from getting the rankings that you need. It could be link partners on your website not helping your cause or the search engine who is penalising your website. If your page rank has dropped because of penalties from a search engine, there are steps that you can take to help get your rankings back. It is first important to find out if there are penalties that are preventing you from having a better page rank for your website or if there are SEO issues in your website that you need to fix. This can also include any links that you have on your website that may be linked to other websites that have penalties. You should watch for these and fix them or remove them from your website so that you do not have to worry about getting penalties for your own website.

3.    Valuing Potential Links - It can be difficult to compare the value of different links from other websites but if you want to make sure that you are getting the most benefit from your search engine optimization efforts, you need to know if the links are of a decent quality and what content you should have on the web page where the link is connected to go to maximise relevancy. Users should be able to go to your web page by the link and get the content that they need. If you are not sure what kind of links are valued higher than others, you can find online tools that can help you identify the potential SEO issues that you may be having with your link building and you can fix them.

4.    Watching your Rankings - It can waste a lot of time constantly checking the rankings for your website. If you have been spending countless amounts of time checking to see where your website is ranked, you may want to consider cutting down and just checking daily or weekly or even monthly.  When you know where you are in the rankings, you can then evaluate the SEO of your website and see where you need to improve. Once you know what your rankings are, you can begin to evaluate what you can do to improve them.

5.    Streamline Common Link Searches - if you have tried to find out what links are helping your website and which ones may be hurting your website, you can also find online tools that can help you with this step. You may have links on your website to other websites that could be hurting the rankings of your links. You may not be aware that another link on your web page is linked to a website that has penalties or does not have good rankings, but if it is linked to a bad web page or website you may also experience penalties. It is always a good idea to carefully analyze where your links are going and make sure that the website you are linking to meets the SEO guidelines published by Google.

6.    Determine the Best Keywords - When you are developing your links and web pages to increase your search rankings, one of the most important steps is to find out which keywords you should be using to target the right audience. If you choose keywords that are very competitive because all of your industry peers are using them, bear in mind this will make it harder to get up to the top of the results listings. Make sure that you are always using the best keywords that you can so a mixture of more generic terms and long-tail keywords can be the best choice for a site-wide search engine optimisation campaign.

7.    Content - Content is not only important to add to the quality of your website, it can also be a big factor in how good your rankings are with search engines. If you provide fresh and interesting content for users who go to your website, you can have better rankings with search engines. Your content that you use on your website should have information that is related to the products or services that you are offering. It should also contain the keywords that you are targeting but find a balance and make sure it doesn’t come across as spammy.

Keep your site fresh and fully validated and check your webmaster tools account regularly to see if there are any issues stopping your site from getting the search engine rankings that you should.
