You need to think outside the box.  Don’t write about what everyone else is. Rather, write your blog on a subject you consider yourself somewhat of an authority on so readers will see your blog as legitimate and worthwhile.

Finding Your Niche

Keep your readers reading until the end. This tip is somewhat related to the first tip because, if you are not writing about the specialty that you know, it will be reflected in your blogs. Keep it to the point but, at the same time, still be descriptive. Your goal is to have a reader start at the beginning and go all the way to the end. You don’t want the reader to get bored or lose interest after a few sentences.

Be aware of the titles. Your title says a lot about your site and it will most likely be your reader’s first impression of your blog. Don’t overdo graphics or animation on your blog. If you already have articles that are useful then there’s really not the need to have to animate the blog. Ask yourself, “Are the graphics really helpful to my visitor?” If the answer is, “yes,” then go ahead and continue using the graphics.  But if the answer is, “no,” then get rid of them. Sometimes graphics and animations make a blog more lively and entertaining, but too many could make the reader annoyed and your page looking cluttered.

Your homepage is the most vital part of your site. You need to make it as user friendly and easy to use as possible. You should link the majority of your posts to your homepage and your pages should be using a link back to the home page. If you have some blogs that were more widely read and acclaimed than others, then you could consider making a “Top 5 blogs” link and place that on your homepage as well.

Don’t confuse the blog by using different topics or subjects. If you do have other articles, create other blogs. Do not mix your blog with different topics.  For example, what would you think about a blog that gave software advice along with cooking tips? There are numerous people who want to write on two different topics so they choose their blog that receives more traffic to talk to write about the other topic.  This will give a bad impression, so avoid doing it. If you want to blog about various unrelated subjects then, by all means do so, just keep them completely separate from each other and don’t overlap.
